There is also a ferry service between Penang and Langkawi taking about 2 hours 30 minutes. Visitors opting to travel by road will have to take the excellent North-South Expressway to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis. Car parking facilities are conveniently available at both jetty points. At Alor Star or Arau, take a taxi or bus to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis respectively, for your ferry to Langkawi.

Moving around in Langkawi is fairly easy. A very good road infrastructure covers all the important sites with clear signage. If you do not want to go on guided tours, you can always self-drive (remember in Malaysia to drive on the left side of the road). Car rental facilities (including motorcycles) are available at the airport or at the Jetty Point. For foreign visitors, an international driving licence is required
